The Truth Click consists of A. Wells (Adam Wells), J. Fresco (Ray Coleman), T. Jacob (Timothy Moncure), and Dink Da Hustla (Byron McGloster) and was formed in 2004 at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS. The group is a dynamic blend of real and creative flows, soulful singing, hot beats, and infectious hooks. They combine the north's attention to lyricism and flow with Southern Swagger and passion to create the perfect blend of hip hop. The Truth Click extends to those persons that help to keep The Truth Movement moving and to the fans and supporters of The Truth Click's music.
Each member of The Truth Click adds their own individual flavor to the music, which makes them even more appealing. A. Wells, who hails from Canton, Mississippi, has a very distinct voice and versatile approach to rhyme, which allows him to relate to a wide variety of listeners. This is one of the reasons why Wells says that he is “the bridge between the hood and higher learning”. Wells also has a knack for crafting catchy hooks, but what sets him apart from many of the hook dependent artists of today is that his lyrical ability and mic presence matches and often outshines the hook.
J. Fresco, who is from Port Gibson, Mississippi, has the ability to move seamlessly from R&B to rap, which is reminiscent of female greats like Lauren Hill and Missy Elliot. This ability is displayed on songs like Fresco’s solo song “Groove with Me”, on which he entices the ladies to join him on the dance floor (and in the bedroom) by using his smooth southern soul, and songs like The Truth Click’s “Be Cool”, on which he rides the beat better than 90% of the rappers that you hear on the radio can.
T. Jacob’s unique style has led others to anoint him “T. Jacob the Genius”, which fits him very well. Jacob, who calls Utica, Mississippi home, is a gift to hip hop lovers who enjoy pure lyricism, and one may have to listen to his words several times before they fully understand his complex and creative rhymes. Jacob is also an aspiring producer who is looking to distance himself from his production peers in the same manner that he has set himself apart from other rappers by continuing to be creative.
Finally, Dink Da Hustla, like his cousin J. Fresco, calls Port Gibson his home, and one can hear the hoods of “P.G.” in his distinct voice. Members of The Click anointed him “Da Hustla” because of his ability to sale The Truth Click mixtapes. Along with these attributes, Dink is also a talented artist. He designed The Truth Click logo and has many designs for T-shirts that would sale in any hood in the U.S.
As was previously stated, The Truth Click sees its music as more than music, but a movement. In today’s music industry, however, the term movement has seemed to become a cliché. The Truth Click wants to distance itself from that. A. Wells states, “When we were coming up, we associated the word movement with shit like the Civil Rights Movement. That was a true movement because the effects of it will last forever. That’s what we trying to do. We understand that to have the ability to do that we have to make hit records to get the attention of the people and to get money. We all know that money is power, and with that power and with the ears of the people, we can really use this shit to help change things in the hood and have a lasting effect on our people.”
That’s what The Truth Movement is all about: Being real with self and others, making hit records, getting money, and using the power that comes with that money to better our hoods. Be a part of the movement. TRUTH CLICK.
